El capítulo III ofrece un repaso breve acerca de las organizaciones y sus principales facetas, que permitirán entender mejor el conocimiento organizacional, cuyas características y dimensiones se presentan en el capítulo IV, en donde además se describen los tipos de conocimiento utilizados en las organizaciones para el cumplimiento de sus objetivos.
El capítulo V describe las funciones específicas que cumple el conocimiento para que las organizaciones desarrollen sus capacidades dinámicas y las ventajas competitivas necesarias para el éxito organizativo. Se detalla el proceso de conversión del conocimiento tácito a explícito y viceversa, así como la creación de nuevo conocimiento para hacer frente a las cambiantes realidades del entorno.
Finalmente, en el capítulo VI se tratan algunos de los temas más relevantes en las organizaciones, que de alguna manera influyen el flujo de información y la utilización del conocimiento en las empresas, donde se incluyen: la memoria organizacional, los trabajadores del conocimiento, la inteligencia y la ignorancia organizacionales, todos ellos determinantes de su supervivencia y adaptabilidad al entorno turbulento de la actual sociedad del conocimiento.
